One nightstand

One of the many, many things on my list to do this year is to re-dress my room.
I have wanted a nightstand for ever so long and yet it, with its four legs and me with my two,
has eluded me. Wood furniture in white finish appeals to me a lot right now.

Here are a couple of nightstands that I have seen and fit that bill.
Neither is ornate, but it can be decorated up. (After all, a nightstand is the steadfast servant
of the bed and its flourish should be muted.)

Yours most truly... LP

rant

(repost: November 21. 2010)

So...
I'm restating my rant in simpler terms.
For a moment I thought maybe 2 + 2  = 5.
But it doesn't, of course.
I shall leave it there.

Sketch of a Rose 2

Actually, these were my attempts at adding colour to the rose. This is where I fell...

Attempt #1: in watercolour.
The result had a heavier feel than I was going for.
It was 'messy' and the colours came out very neon.

Attempt #2: in coloured pencil.
The result was somewhat flat and had a constructivist, or
overly geometric, look. Not at all the flowy feeling I wanted.

Attempt #3: in watercolour again.
I exercised far more patience with this one.
That made a tremendous difference.  Also, I used
a shorter palette and achieved contrast by layering.
This experience with watercolours was more
satisfying, but I still wasn't happy with the result. *laugh*

If you were wondering about the pencil markings in the lower right corner of the images, those are the beginnings of a second rose that was meant to complete the picture.
It is just as naked (read: unpainted) now as it was there. I wanted it to be white. While I can hazard a guess as to how one might paint a white rose in watercolour, I am  quite confident that I lack the confidence and, for the moment, ability to do so.
I'd like to think: as long as my interest in the medium persists–and it does!–there is hope.

PS There is nothing as hilariously ridiculous, frustratingly tedious and ridiculously frustrating, all at the same time!, as formatting on the internet.

Sketch of a Rose

I took on a little painting project recently (that has since failed). The project was to paint a pair of roses for a wedding card. It turns out that it was a bigger project than I had realised. Even so, once again I am very much in love with the idea of painting!

This pencil sketch of a rose was the first step of my project. The process of drawing it was so surprisingly smooth that I thought, "How hard could it be to do it in colour?" The answer is: "Very!"

I have photographed it and 'cleaned it up'
by erasing the surrounding smudgy areas
on the computer.

I hope it is as nice as I think it is. There are times when I have been happy with a drawing only to look upon it later on in a new light, an unflattering and disappointing new light.

I will post my attempts at painting it in watercolour over the next few days. *fingers crossed*

New Header

Finally!
I've got a new header up on my lil blog. That's my little penguin with her crown—she falls somewhere between an emperor penguin and a 'lady' penguin, or rather, she's a Lady Penguin complete with airs and all. hehe
I am not entirely sure of the colours, but it is colourful and I am happy with it for now. :) However, those are not all the changes I had in mind! Tweaking the templates is proving to be a teensy bit tricky. Not to worry, I will prevail! *declares falteringly*

And the red one...

I might as well show off the red version of the Fly London shoe too.
Note: the colours are not as bold in person.
Fly London

By the way, I am hoping to re-design my little blog in the near future. =)

Fly London, Dr. Martens !

This blog has become a bombardment of pictures of shoes. I do apologise.

Nevertheless, I have a couple more I must add. Have a look! as I quietly shield myself from embarrassment by placing my hand before my face.

Fly London

I would consider buying these. (Especially as they are on sale.) Adorable. And I think the laces make them that much more wearable, as my feet tend to fit narrow. Click image to enlarge.

Dr. Martens

How can you not love these?! Metallic gloss patent finish. O, but where and when would I wear these lovelies. . . now that I have cut down on my intergalactic travels? Click image to enlarge.

Please forgive me my indulgences. Mind you, I only look—mostly. If you too would like to look, check out gravitypope.com.

Yours truly!

I cannot say I have seen her

not to say she does not
reside there.

Faery the First.

From my faery collection.
Please note this is not my fairy.

Yours truly.

Do not fear the faeries...

To come!

I look forward to creating a sort of faery log. That is, I will post pictures of fairies that strike me as little gems of inspiration. Some will be of spirits rooted in this world and some from worlds we reach only in our dreamliest of dreams... but I will leave all these details for later.

It may all turn out that this belongs in a secondary blog. For now, we will begin here. :)

Ugh... another shoe.

My latest objet désiré:

Given the black and white pump of a couple posts ago, I'd say I have a thing for black and white shoes right now!
I am making a case for this one, and I think it supplants the pump. I walk a a lot, and this is more practical for my lifestyle. Also, I have been looking for something dressy-casual (among many, many other things) and this fits the bill. This will go well with the coloured pants and leggings that I have, as well as the blacks and greys that pervade my wardrobe. Slightly less stark than the pump; therefore, more useable.
All good reasons, I'd say! =)

Until next time ~
The Lady has spoken!

heavy-hearted, light-footed?

I have been a bit manic this week, and I do not foresee it passing in the next couple of days. But, I say, let it flow and use it as I might.

However, that's all a little beside the point, isn't it?

I've had my eye on a couple of shoes. Some I posted last time. Here are a couple more. To be honest, I thought I had a lot more to show. I think some have fallen by the wayside. Or, have I become more discerning??

Shall I add a dash of summery colour to my wardrobe?

Can I go wrong with this ideal, classic black pump by CK?
Apart from the price.

Thought you might want to see it again, from a reverse angle...

Have.  As good as gold?
I am hoping this flat case wallet proves to be reliable and versatile. With more pockets than my current one and the pzazz of its golden-silvery tone, I expect it to work well for the everyday and for the dressier occasions. This style suddenly seems to be popular; I have already seen some others to rival this one. My only question: Is it enough wallet to withstand the bulk its contents?

Keep the faith. Whatever it may be.

Have. Have not.

Have. Recently purchased. And will look adorable with some boldly coloured anklet socks that I have. :)

Don't have. I'm thinking about this one. Is it too bold to be practical in the everyday? Should I go for a plain black pump (first)?

Don't have. Most definitely would like. Fairy-inspired methinks. :) And could be worn casually or dressily.

Have. Recently purchased dress. I have to say it looks horrible here, but faery-amazon in person. It is sheer, so that will have to be worked around if it is worn strictly as a dress. Also, I think that may be the reason it comes off so dark in this picture.
Update: Returned! I will have to replace it with something else. I did like the shape, but the colours were not what I first perceived them to be.

The Case of the Reappearing Dress

In an October 2009 post entitled (sadly presciently) Long Live McQueen? I included a picture of a hippie-dress-shirt that had caught my fancy. I had seen it at Guess. I liked it, but not quite enough to find it within the scope of my budget at the time.

As the weeks passed, I would check back every now and again to see if it was still there. It was, until it moved eventually to the Sales section. That's when I tried it once more, but the colours seemed different and I let it go. That was that. I never expected to see it again.

*  *  *

It was not even a week ago that I was walking through the mall, throwing quick glances at the spring arrivals. It was at Suzy Shier that I was stopped short. Something had caught my eye. Something hippieish. So, dutifully I stepped into the store for a quick look. I was more than surprised to see it was my hippie-dress-shirt from Guess! I kid you not. Down to the metal button detailing that adorned the v-neck and the gold lamé that ran down the body. Everything was the same save for the label and the price!—less than half of the original-original price.

I am not so naïve as to not realise that these clothes are made in factories that hold contracts to fill orders for multiple apparel companies. Still I was stunned. There are workmanship and fabric and other differentiating factors I thought. I thought

I won't pretend to know what the moral of this story is because I don't. Either way now you know the Case of the Reappearing Dress. And I am left again with the dilemma of whether to buy it...

Long Live McQueen! RIP

Wee blog for the wee hours

Ah, so we meet again, Stranger. And well you may call me one, so seldom have I passed here.

Again, I fear it is too late for the proper post I was planning. I will do that tomorrow. "A la mañana," I blush.

For now, I have changed my profile in the slightest way, and I thought I might share a line of it here:

Wonder and Whimsy, lead the way. And I will follow You.

Words that surely would lighten the load if only I chose to live by them. It's a thought. :)

More to come...
Sweet dreams, world.

Colours of the season: 2 new nail varnishes

A tiiiiny shopping detour today (or rather yesterday for those who would insist upon counting days by the hour on the clock) led me to the acquisition of 2 new nail varnishes for my growing polish family.

They are from the Sally Hansen "Xtreme wear" collection.

The first one is Ivy League (4860-17). It matches a bag of mine so perfectly, it's remarkable. But, apart from that, I think its golden tones make it very versatile. It behooves (just about typed beehives!) me to point out that I doctored the next photo to create this green colour as no adequate facsimile was to be found in my extensive perusals of images online.

And Marine Scene (4860-19) could not be resisted. Perhaps it speaks of a subconscious longing for summer. Although, I think the hue works just as well as an accent to an icy, chilling wintry day.

Ack, apologies for that somewhat supercilious sounding language, but those were the words that came to me. In the same way that sometimes "press" comes to mind instead of "iron"; or, how once when I was unable to think of an appropriately courteous way of asking someone what they wanted without blurting out bluntly "What do you want?" the only alternative I could find had me querying, in Dickensian fashion, "What is the manner of your business?"; or, at the other end of the spectrum, common diction fails me altogether and I use "snip-snip" in place of "haircut", which, I add, must be used with care for it may be misconstrued as "circumcision".

This was meant to be a short post. Just 2 pics... and a tedious amount of blah-blah. ;)

Ramble on!

A few more photos to further my fumbling fashion file :)

My cosy lil grey fabric houndstooth mocs. I suppose, really they're loafers, but I am enamored with the idea of moccasins and I've always envisioned moccasins to be super comfortable and light-weight. In that respect, my cosy lil grey fabric houndstooth *loafers* meet my moc expectations. They wear like slippers for the out-of-doors. (Another one of my 2009 purchases.)

By the way, all of the photos from the last post, as well as these here shoes, were brought to you by the Lady Penguin! *takes deep bow ~ well, not so deep: bends at the... er, knees?*

I wanted to post a picture of a blue casual dress I bought. Unfortunately, I have not had a camera since its purchase and it is seemingly impossible to find a picture of it online. Does Song (the clothing brand) have a website? Googling "song blue dress" is a road to futility, paved with frustration, unless, of course, you are researching the song "Devil with a Blue Dress on". I will tell you this: It has pockets.

Just now, rubbing my sore eyes (finally on the mend after a week of eyelids so sore that even the soothing powers of vaseline are compromised by stinging), I had a vision. Picture a yellow loose-necked sweater with ribbed trim of green at the base and pink forms on 3-quarter length sleeves. Colourful like a parrot. I'll have to draw it and post. :P

That's all for now, my furry cyber-rabbits. Congratulations to me for having managed another post. (Every little bit of encouragement helps!) And I hope to tickle your mental ventricles again in the very near future.

Om

Not altogether abandoned...

Ah, let me stoke the quickly cooling coals of my little blog, and perhaps set it alight once more. A flicker to a flame, and whatever else may come...

So, to make this easy on me—apart from the photoshopping—let me post a few pics of recent purchases. Well, not so recent considering the amount of time that has passed. They are all from about mid- to the end of 2009.

My lovely Guess shirt, with roll-up snap option sleeves.
(Excuse my verbosity if there is a single term for such sartorial appurtenances.)

My mules.  I fear they look a little battered here.  But they are very comfy. I believe they were bought during one of my (many?) self-imposed shopping moratoria.

But, your Honour, in my defense I tell you that I had not bought them, I would not have them now. . .  No, I do not mock the court; I could not afford counsel.

Sounds reasonable... well, logical anyway.

Towards the end of last year, I suddenly had a desire for casual dresses. This was the first of a few. Which is saying something, because I have never known myself to be a "dress" girl. I await to see myself wear them come spring and summer.

And so it is done! The spark sprung, the flame fanned, the fire rekindled. *does a post-blogpost dance*
